Erzberg, Steiermark - Esterházy, Paul II. Anton Fürst (3/25)
Erzbistümer Erzherzogshut

Erzherzog

Archduke, title of the Austrian sovereign, claimed by Rudolf IV in the Privilegium Majus (Archduke Palatine); the first holder of this title was Ernst der Eiserne of Styria (d. 1424); Emperor Friedrich III granted the title only to members of his family and to Sigmund of Tirol (not to Ladislaus Postumus) in 1453; later it was used by all members of the Houses of Habsburg and Habsburg-Lorraine. This title was abolished in 1919, but is still used unofficially.
