On the occasion of Emperor Franz Josephs golden jubilee a group of industrialists and politicians had founded a society to promote the building of a new theatre. It was named "Imperial Jubilee Theatre" and is now the Wiener Volksoper, a place where the Viennese operetta is continuously cultivated. "Die Fledermaus", "Der Zigeunerbaron", "Eine Nacht in Venedig" and "Wiener Blut" are part of the repertoire.
