Special Olympics Winter Games
The Special Olympics is an international sporting event for mentally and multiple-handicapped children and adults, offering opportunities for training and competition throughout the year. The games originated in 1968 when the first International Special Olympics Games were organized in the Soldiers Field Stadium in Chicago, USA. 1,600 athletes from 50 countries took part in the 5th Winter Games of the Special Olympics, held from March 20-27, 1993 in Salzburg and Schladming. "Let me win! Even if I can't, I want to try with courage!" is the theme representing the spirit of the games which encourage millions of handicapped individuals to actively participate in social activities.
