Austrian Export
Traditionally Austria has been a strongly export-oriented nation due to its relatively small domestic market. Austria's export quota, the share of export within its gross domestic product, was estimated at 23% in 1988. A good third of the jobs then were secured by foreign trade, which is why Austrian economic policy since then has been aimed at promoting foreign trade. The commemorative stamp shows the symbolic hologram image of a cube with the trade mark "A". It emerged from the 1988 Export Convention of the Chamber of Commerce on October 18, 1988. The hologram trade mark "A" not only represented a philatelic innovation, but also was intended to promote Austrian products abroad. It was a pictorial climax in a series of activities in 1988, all of which focused on the importance of export to Austria's economy.
