Zuckerkandl, Emil, b. Györ (Hungary), Sept. 1, 1849, d. Vienna, May 28, 1910, anatomist, brother of Otto Zuckerkandl, husband of Berta Zuckerkandl-Szeps, pupil of J. Hyrtl and K. Langer. From 1882 Professor at Graz University, from 1888 at Vienna University; greatly contributed to research concerning topographic and comparative anatomy and morphology. Carried out studies on the anatomy of the ear, the nasal cavity, as well as of teeth and on chromaffin tissue (discovered organs named after him - Zuckerkandl's paraganglia).


Publications: Zur Morphologie des Gesichtsschädels, 1877; Normale und pathologische Anatomie der Nasenhöhle, 2 vols., 1882/92; Atlas der topographischen Anatomie des Menschen, 5 vols., 1900-1904 (his major work).
