ZsitvatorokZsitvatorok, Peace of (also Zsitvatörök, Sitvatörök, Szitvatörök), November 11, 1606, village of Žitva at the confluence of the Stara Žitava stream and the River Danube in the vicinity of Marcelova, east of Komárno, Slovakia; ended the Turkish War which had lasted since 1593; the sultan of the Ottoman empire for the first time recognised the Emperor as equal and refrained from demanding the annual "honorary gift" (tribute) which had been customary since 1547 against a single payment of 200,000 gulden.
