Vierthaler, Franz MichaelVierthaler, Franz Michael, b. Mauerkirchen (Upper Austria), Sept. 25, 1758, d. Vienna, Oct. 3, 1827, prominent representative of education in the spirit of Enlightenment, author of school books, writer. 1783-1787 teacher at the Virgilianum (Knights' Academies), 1790-1803 director of the recently founded teacher training institution and official of the school commission in Salzburg, 1803 schools inspector in Salzburg province, 1804-1806 orphanage director in Salzburg and 1806-1827 in Vienna. V.'s work was influential throughout Austria and Bavaria. Works: Philosoph.
