Sunthaym, Ladislaus


Sunthaym, Ladislaus, b. Ravensburg (Germany), around 1440, d. Vienna, January/Feb., 1513, genealogist, topographer, clergyman. Around 1475 probably in the service of Archduke Sigmund of Tirol; around 1490 produced an elaborate genealogy of the Babenbergs for the monastery of Klosterneuburg (as basis for the Babenberg Family Tree); from 1500 in the service of Emperor Maximilian I, for whom he worked as genealogist.


Works: Klosterneuburger Tafeln, magnificent manuscript in Klosterneuburg, printed in Basle 1491 (Genealogy of the Babenbergs); Handschrift Blau Nr. 4 (manuscript) in the Vienna Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv with a genealogy of the Habsburgs, from Rudolf I to Philipp der Schöne. - Other manuscripts in the Austrian National Library and the library Landesbibliothek Stuttgart.
