Silvretta Mountains, glacier-covered crystalline massif of the Central Alps, southeast of the Rätikon Mountains in the border region of Austria (Tyrol, Vorarlberg) and Switzerland. Principal peaks: Großer Piz Buin (3,312 m), Silvrettahorn (3,244 m) and Dreiländerspitze (3,197 m). Three large water reservoirs of the Vorarlberger Illwerke AG. The most important mountain passes are Schlappiner Joch (2,202 m) and Bielerhöhe (2,037 m). Skiing area. Mountain refuges: Saarbrückener Hütte (2,538 m), Wiesbadner Hütte (2,443 m), Tübinger Hütte (2,191 m), etc.
