Schneider, Hannes, b. Stuben in the municipality of Klösterle am Arlberg (Vorarlberg), June 24, 1890, d. North Conway (USA), April 24, 1955. Skiing pioneer. From 1907 ski instructor in St. Anton Sankt Anton am Arlberg, with his "Arlberg School" founded in 1922 and instructive films propagated the stem turn and a technique which was adapted to the terrain, and in this way made the Arlberg area an international skiing centre. Also took part in ski films and founded the North Conway ski centre in New Hampshire after his emigration to the USA (1938).
