Roda Roda, Alexander eigentlich Alexander Sándor Rosenfeld


Roda Roda, Alexander (real name: Alexander Sándor Rosenfeld), b. Drnovice, Czech Republic (then Drnowitz), April 13, 1872, d. New York (USA), Aug. 20, 1945, satirist, playwright, humorist. Studied law in Vienna and pursued an officer's career. 1900/1901 affair with the actress A. Sandrock. From 1901 published affectionately humorous stories about the various classes in the Habsburg monarchy and especially about the military, for which he lost his officer's rank in 1907. 1904 went to Berlin, where he was very successful in revues as an author and reciter. His most popular humorous play, "Der Feldherrnhügel" (1910, with C. Rössler), was immediately banned in Austria-Hungary. After World War I lived alternately in Paris, Munich and Berlin. 1933 took refuge in Austria from the National Socialists, in March 1938 fled to Switzerland, from where he had to emigrate to the USA in 1940.
