Post und Telekom Austria AG, PTA© Copyright Postal Service: letter box, late 19th century Post und Telekom Austria AG, PTA, founded in 1996 in the course of the privatisation of national enterprises. The PTA as a national enterprise was called Österreichische Post- und Telegraphenverwaltung (Postal Service) After privatisation the subsidiaries´ shares are intended to be quoted on the stock exchange. With 57,600 employees in 1997, PTA is one of the largest enterprises in Austria. Almost 60 % of its employees work for the postal department (letter and parcel service), around 30 % for the telecommunications department, around 7 % for the postal bus service and the remaining 3 % for the central office. The company is headed by J. Sindelka. The area telecommunications with new branches of technology such as mobile phones and electronic data transmission has been part of the independent subsidiary Telekom Austria AG since 1998.
