Postkarte

Postcard, an Austrian invention. E. Herrmann suggested the idea of an open card with the dimensions of a letter for short messages with a printed stamp on it on January 26th , 1869 in the "Neue Freie Presse" (an Austrian daily newspaper). It was introduced by the Postal Service Administration on October 1st , 1869: a white card with the dimensions 16 x 8,6 cm, a printed yellow 2-Kreuzer-stamp and "Correspondenz-Karte" written on it. Very soon most of the European states and the U.S. had taken over this idea.
