Pálffy, Johann IV. GrafPálffy, Count Johann IV, b. Aug. 20, 1683, d. March 24, 1750, field marshal and troop commander at the time of Prince Eugène of Savoy. Distinguished himself in Italy and 1703-1711 during the Kuruc Invasions, concluded the Peace of Szatmár on Nov. 30, 1711 and fought in the Turkish War in 1716 near Peterwardein and in 1717 near Belgrade. Became Banus of Croatia in 1703 and crowned Maria Theresia Queen of Hungary in 1740. Renowned for his loyalty to the Habsburgs and for his outstanding bravery in battle.
