Much, Matthäus


Much, Matthäus, b. Göpfritz (Lower Austria), Oct. 18, 1832, d. Vienna, Dec. 17, 1909, private scholar, researcher of ancient history, member of the Imperial Central Commission for Historical Monuments and Ancient Sights, conducted excavations in Lower Austria, Upper Austria (near Mondsee) and the province of Salzburg (near Bischofshofen, Arthur-Stollen), put together a prominent collection, which after his death formed the basis of the collection of the Department of Ancient and Early History at the University of Vienna.
