Mondseekultur

Mondsee Culture, a culture of the New Stone Age between 3600 and 3300, perhaps 3000 B.C. in the area north of the Alps with centres of settlement in the provinces of Upper Austria and Salzburg (Lake-dwellings). Name derived from finds salvaged in the 19th century in Lake Mondsee. Typical characteristics are decorations on ceramic articles which consist of deep indentations filled with a white, limy paste, skilfully finished stone products, and simple copper objects, which testify to the copper processing skills of the period.
