London (United Kingdom), Aug. 25, 1794, diplomat, adoptive son of Claudius Florimund Count Mercy. Confidant of Maria Theresia, ambassador in St. Petersburg, 1780 envoy to Paris and 1790 to London. His correspondence with Maria Theresia and Joseph II was of importance for the history of the time (ed. by A. Arneth, 2 vols., 1889/1891). Literature: NDB.
