From 1930 University Professor in Tübingen, from 1941 in Munich, from 1944 in Vienna. Important work in the field of crystal chemistry. Works: Grundlagen der allgemeinen Mineralogie und Kristallchemie, 1946; Vorräte und Verteilung der mineralischen Rohstoffe, 1948; Spezielle Mineralogie auf geochemischer Grundlage, 1953. - Some 140 papers published in scientific journals.
