Loden

Loden, durable carded yarn cloth, made of (half) wool, in Austria used in particular for the manufacture of traditional costumes. Predominantly small-scale Loden-fulling mills (Styria, Tirol) with a century-long tradition, has developed into an important, export-oriented industry, which produces hats, jackets, woolen coats ("Hubertusmäntel"), etc. At the same time, what was long confined to purely Austrian traditional costumes has become a versatile, internationally recognized fashion industry.
