Breakthrough in 1950 (winner of the composition competition of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, ORF with "Je t'aime"), 1954 first recordings, films (Unsere tollen Tanten, Unsere tollen Nichten), 1966 winner of the "Grand Prix d'Eurovision" in Luxembourg with "Merci Cherie". Numerous tours and TV shows. Several major awards, 1985 awarded the honorary title of Professor. As of 2000, 70 million of his records had been sold. Works: approx. 600 compositions, including: Merci Cherie, Griechischer Wein, Anuschka, Aber bitte mit Sahne, Buenos Dias Argentina, Mit 66 Jahren. - ... unterm Smoking Gänsehaut, 1994 (autobiography).
