Wilanow near Warsaw (Poland), June 17, 1696, Field Marshal of the Crown, 1674 King of Poland. After an alliance with France and Sweden (1675-1678) he entered into alliance with the Emperor on March 1, 1683 and provided the largest contingent of the army that, under his supreme command, defeated the Ottoman army besieging Vienna on September 12, 1683, thus ending the second of the two Turkish Sieges of Vienna.
