Herbert, Franz Paul Freiherr vonHerbert, Baron Franz Paul von, b. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), Aug. 18, 1819, d. Feldbach (Styria), Aug. 3, 1884, industrialist. Studied chemistry, physics and mathematics in Vienna and Berlin, in 1854 took over the white lead factory which his great-grandfather had founded in 1749 in Klagenfurt, the first in Austria. The factory flourished under H.'s directorship. In 1880 his adopted son took over the firm. H. was also active in politics (member of the Reichsrat 1861-1870). Literature: NDB.
