Hatzfeld, Melchior, Graf zu Gleichen und Hatzfeld


Hatzfeld, Melchior, Count of Gleichen and H., b. Krottorf (Germany), Oct. 20 (?), 1593, d. Powitzko (Silesia), Jan. 9, 1658, military commander. During the Thirty Years' War joined the imperial army, and under Wallenstein became Wachtmeister general; lost the battle near Jankau March 6, 1645; in 1657 as a General Field Marshall in Poland but was removed from office and replaced by Prince R. Montecuccoli.
