Hartwig von Raute


Hartwig von Raute, 12th-century Middle High German poet from the Bavarian-Austrian border area. Minnesinger during the period of transition from early to Hohe Minnesong. The themes of his songs are the inner conflict of the knight torn between his martial duties (Ritterpflicht) and those pertaining to courtly love (Minnepflicht) and the knight as a helpless captive of his courtly love.
