Donau Chemie AG


Donau Chemie AG, chemical company, since 1997 90%-owned by the de-Krassny private foundation, 10% owned by Alain de Krassny, until 1997 majority interest held by the French chemical group Rhone Poulenc S. A., Paris, while the Austrian Creditanstalt bank owns one third. As an industrial and commercial enterprise the Donau Chemie is active in Austria and in some of its neighbouring countries; about one third of its production is exported. It mainly produces basic chemicals (e.g. sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, ferric chloride), plaster boards, fertilisers, latex and calcium carbide. Until 1997 its subsidiary Gerot Pharmazeutika GesmbH was one of the leading manufacturers of pharmaceuticals in Austria. Together with its subsidiary company the Donau Chemie achieved a turnover of more than ATS 1.3 billion and employed approx. 600 people (1997). Sites: Pischelsdorf (Lower Austria), Brückl (Carinthia), Landeck (Tirol); headquarters in Vienna.

Its subsidiary Donauchem Handels GmbH is responsible for the sale of the chemicals.
