Castelli, Ignaz Franz (pseudonym: Bruder Fatalis, Kosmas, Rosenfeld, C. A. Stille), b. Vienna, March 6, 1781, d. Vienna, Feb. 5, 1862, author. Popular and versatile poet of the Vienna Biedermeier period; after 1811 wrote about 200 plays for the Vienna Kärntnertortheater, these were for the most part published in his almanach "Dramatische Sträußchen" (1809, 1817-1835), C. edited the magazines "Der Sammler" (from 1808) and "Wiener Modezeitung" (1815-1848) and founded the "Ludlamshöhle" in 1819 and the Vienna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in 1847.


Works: Poetische Kleinigkeiten, 5 vols., 1816-1826; Wiener Lebensbilder, 1828 (sketches); Gedichte in niederösterreichischer Mundart, 1828; Sämtliche Werke, 15 vols., 1844-1846; Wörterbuch der Mundart in Österreich unter der Enns, 1847; Erzählungen von allen Farben, 6 vols., 1839-1840; Memoiren meines Lebens, 4 vols., 1861.
