Bürgerschule zu St. StephanBürgerschule zu St. Stephan, Vienna; originally a parish school under the patronage of the Prince; reorganized as Bürgerschule in 1296 (Latin school with emphasis on the quadrivium, consisting of music, arithmetic, geometry, and astronomy); enjoyed a high reputation up to the 16th century, particularly up to the foundation of Vienna University; its school rules of 1446 give insight into school practice in the Middle Ages.
