Burg, Ferdinand (the name of Archduke Ferdinand Karl since 1911), b. Vienna, Dec. 27, 1868, d. Munich (Germany), March 12, 1915, brother of the successor to the throne Franz Ferdinand and nephew of Franz Joseph I. Was especially interested in the theatre but was an officer until 1904; Emperor Franz Joseph ordered his expulsion from the military forces and from the House of Habsburg in 1911 following his affair with Berta Czuber, the daughter of Emanuel Czuber; they married secretly in 1909. From then on he called himself Burg as his father had done when on his travels and lived on estates he inherited in South Tyrol.
