Vienna, March 28, 1876, violinist, from 1819-1848 teacher at the Vienna Conservatory, he laid the foundations for the reputation of Vienna School for Violinists (taught J. Joachim and G. Hellmesberger the Elder); also won fame as a soloist and a quartette member (premiere of works by Beethoven and Schubert); 1821-1868 member of the Court orchestra.
