Vienna, May 13, 1959, construction worker, trade unionist and politician (Austrian Social Democratic Party, SPÖ), 1930-1934 and 1945-1959 member of the Nationalrat, 1945-1959 2nd president of the Nationalrat. One of the founders of the politically independent Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (ÖGB) and its president until 1959. Along with J. Raab, one of the main initiators of the social partnership.
