Johann Strauß marries a second time in Karlskirche, Vienna
1040 Vienna, Karlsplatz
Fifty days after the death of his first wife Strauß married the actress Ernestine
Henriette Angelica Dittrich, called Lily. She was born in Breslau, 1850.
The marriage was not happy and lasted only for a short time. On September 27th, 1882 Lily left the Strauß summer residence at Schönau/Triesting. She moved into the house of Franz Steiner, director of the Theater an der Wien, with whom she had carried on an affair for some time.
Strauß married a third time: his new partner was Adele Deutsch, widowed Strauß (sic!). She was his junior by 31 years and became his second manager. But as Angelika was still alive, a marriage in the Catholic rite was impossible and so Strauß gave up his Austrian citizenship and applied to become a citizen of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha. The couple adopted the Protestant faith so as to be able to marry at Coburg.
