Johann Strauß (Sohn) Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald: About the waltz
Johann Strauß jun.

Maxingstraße 18 in the 13th district, quite close to Schönbrunn, (in 1868 the street name was Hetzendorfer Straße) was not really within the Vienna Woods, but the proximity could be felt. Perhaps this inspired the composer to write one of his masterpieces, „Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald“ during the first year of his residence in Hietzing. When listening to this string of waltzes one should remember that Vienna was at that time a rapidly expanding city so that the longing for the idyllic atmosphere of the Vienna Woods is easy to understand.
