The tomb of an unknown martyr who died for his faith is the origin of one of Austria's most important abbeys. The pious Christian Valeria buried him there. On the spot of his tomb a sanctuary was erected, which led to the foundation of a monastery in 800, which was transformed into an Augustinian abbey in 1071. Bruckner's activity as a church organist (1845-1855) spread the abbey's reputation as a place of music.
