Centenary of the Murtal Railroad
This stamp commemorates the dawn of the Murtal Railroad 100 years ago on October 8, 1894. For financial reasons, it was first established as a 760 millimeter narrow-gauge railroad. The Murtal Railroad, stretching 65 kilometers through the provinces of Styria and Salzburg, has its main station in the Austrian National Railroad depot of Unzmarkt and serves around 430,000 passengers each year. The railroad is also responsible for the ever-increasing number of winter sports enthusiasts, cyclists, and hikers who have discovered the recreational value of this lovely region.
