Centenary of the Gailtal Railroad
Arnoldstein's factory owner Felix von Mottony played a role in the establishment of the local train from Arnoldstein to Hermagor. He and several other interested parties succeeded in constructing the railroad, which was becoming more and more economically necessary. After several years of planning and construction, it was opened officially on August 11, 1894. On that same day, train number 2555 transported its first passengers, 310 to be exact. Stretching from its origin in Arnoldstein to its destination in Hermagor, the tracks were 30.56 kilometers long. Worth mentioning among the structures is the Gail Bridge with an internal width of 60 meters. The Gailtal Railroad has been operated as a "Zugleitstrecke" since the summer of 1993.
