Wild Emperor, Tyrol from the series Natural Beauty in Austria
The 20-kilometer long, 14-kilometer wide Emperor Mountain Range consists of two parallel ridges sweeping east to west. The southern part known as the Wild Emperor, is a mountain range which due to its incline and variety of challenges has become a Mecca for mountain climbers. The first tourist climb to a peak in the Wild Emperor supposedly took place on August 17, 1794. Since then mountain climbing and tourism in this region have been widely acclaimed. This region is split by a long network of heavily-traveled asphalt roads. By order of the Tyrolian provincial government, the Emperor Mountains were declared a nature reserve on April 29, 1963. This declaration should make it possible to preserve this natural paradise in all its uniqueness for the next generation.
