Vorarlberg State Exhibition in Hohenems - Clothing and People
Clothing and People was the theme of the 1991 State Exhibition in Hohenems. The idea that clothing is a mirror of 200 years' worth of societal development originated, as depicted in Hohenems, during the Renaissance. The Renaissance Palace at Hohenems was commissioned in the second half of the 16th century by Cardinal Marcus Sitticus. As the former seat of the Counts of Hohenems, the palace houses family portraits which give witness to the clothing of the time and inspired the theme of this exhibition. The patterns materials used for clothing and the fashion aspect of textiles are only two main points of emphasis which give the visitor to this exhibition a thorough overview of these and related themes, so vital to Vorarlberg's heritage.
