25th Anniversary of the Death of Franz von Zülow
Born on March 15, 1883 in Vienna, Franz von Zülow ranks among those Austrian artists whose complete works only recently have been shown due appreciation in accordance with their excellence. Initially Zülow was clearly influenced by the Secession, the School for Arts and Crafts on the Stubenring, the Vienna studios, the tail end of Art Nouveau, and the budding Expressionism throughout the European artistic centers. His single most important achievement in the area of graphic design are the Monatshefte (Monthly Journals), which were drawn in pen and hand-colored with water colors. As of 1912 they were published using the technique of paper stencil print. The Monthly Journals appeared between 1909 and 1915. The diverse artist, who made his way in the most varying fields of fine arts, died in 1963.
