8th International Engravers' and Flexographers' Convention in Vienna, June 17-21, 1987
The "Association Europeenne des Graveurs et des Flexographes" (AEGRAFLEX) is the European occupational organization of engravers, stamp makers, and flexographers. It was initially founded on June 11, 1966 under the title "Association des Graveurs Europeens" which in those days only included engravers. On the occasion of this organization's second international convention held in Vienna in 1972, the title was expanded to include flexographers. It was entered into Holland's official register of associations in its present form. The organization's headquarters and administrative office is located in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1987 AEGRAFLEX consisted of 16 national member associations, uniting 325 individual member companies from 25 countries. In 1987 this convention took place for the second time in Austria (Vienna), where the 100th anniversary of the Vienna Engravers' Cooperative in 1986 was decisive in choosing the location. This occupational group has a significant relationship to the postal system - after all, postage stamps are etched by engravers. The high artistic standard of Austrian postage stamps is internationally-renowned. This commemorative stamp shows an old lithograph of an engraver at work.
