The Austrian Working Environment, 1st Value
The situation of the working individual has changed dramatically in connection with the technological advancements of the last decades. New, more specialized fields of employment which require more advanced training play as great a role as the rising productivity in the areas of farming and industry. Even societal attitudes have changed. Today, smooth teamwork involving all staff - employers and employees - represents a solid base for a positive working environment. The voice of employee advocates established within the constitution provides Austria with a method of successful conflict resolution that has proved valuable many times over. In work-related disputes with the employer, two interest groups stand at the side of the Austrian employee, namely the Chamber of Employment and the union. This unique partnership of unions and management consists of representatives from the Congress of Employees, the Austrian Federation of Labor Unions, the Federal Chamber for Industrial Commerce, and the Chambers of Agriculture. Most disputes involving salary, working conditions, or welfare can be settled at the very onset. The resulting social peace contributed significantly to the country's prosperity. This commemorative stamp portrays a steel worker, thereby representing a field of labor which was especially prone to change over the decades.
