Graz (Styria), Aug. 14, 1893, Professor of pastoral theology; dean in Trento; bishop in Graz-Seckau from 1867. Took a firm stand in the struggle between state and church (Kulturkampf); promoted Catholic Rallies, various religious orders and the worship of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
