Zivilschutz

Civil Defence, all non-military actions and precautionary measures for the population designed to reduce loss of life and property resulting from enemy action in case of war; in particular matters concerning sanitation and building laws. Civil defence is an integral part of national defence. While there are no comprehensive statutory regulations regarding civil defence in Austria, building regulations contain specific provisions regarding individual aspects of civil defence (construction of shelters and bunkers).
