Zeiselmauer


Zeiselmauer-Wolfpassing, Lower Austria, municipality in the district of Tulln, alt. 175 m, pop. 1,733, area 12.70 km2, at the eastern edge of the Tullnerfeld Plain. - Wood processing, trade. - In Roman times military camp and settlement (numerous mineral finds, important wall ruins); Gothic parish church altered in Baroque style with Baroque interior, underneath this, excavations of a Roman citadel; late mediaeval granary on Roman foundation walls (inscription dating from 1581). The only document still preserved mentioning the poet Walther von der Vogelweide (1203) was found in Zeiselmauer.
