Wörth, Lake (Wörthersee), Carinthia, alt. 440 m, area 9.3 km2, length 17 km, width 1.7 km, depth 85 m; largest and most frequented bathing lake in Carinthia, relatively good water quality. The lake formed in an Ice Age glacial trough and is connected to Klagenfurt through the Lend Canal. It is drained by the River Glanfurt towards the east. Due to the small number of inlets, Lake Wörth reaches a comparatively high water temperature of up to 28 C; water sports (rowing, water skiing, sailing, surfing) and ship service. The southern shore of Lake Wörth is densely forested but sparsely populated, the north of the lake and its several peninsulas are flanked by hills. The main railway routes (section of the Southern Railway) and roads also run alongside the northern shore. Klagenfurt, with a bathing area and the miniature city of "Minimundus", is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Wörth. Further bathing resorts include Velden am Wörthersee (in the west), Pörtschach am Wörthersee, Goritschach and Krumpendorf am Wörthersee (in the north), as well as Reifnitz and Maria Wörth (Pyramidenkogel look-out tower), which gave Lake Wörth its name.
