Vienna, March 21, 1862, field marshal; grandfather of Prince Alfred (III) of Windisch-Graetz. Crushed the revolts in Prague in June 1848, and in Vienna in Oct. 1848; defeated the Hungarians near Kapolna in Feb. 1849; was relieved of his post in March 1849; appointed commander of the citadel in Mainz; leader of the conservative federalist aristocracy and, from 1861, member of the Upper chamber of the Reichsrat.
