Windhaag bei FreistadtWindhaag bei Freistadt, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Freistadt, alt. 723 m, pop. 1,848, area 42.88 km2, in the northern Mühlviertel region at the Czech border. Mühlviertler Waldhaus Forest Museum with several open-air museums; quarry, stone industry, building and construction industry. A. Bruckner was an assistant teacher in Windhaag from 1841-1843 ("Brucknerstüberl" room in the former school building); late-Gothic parish church (1487-1507), extensively altered in 1873; Statues of St. John of Nepomuk, St. Donatus and St. Florian (1731).
