Winder, Ludwig auch: G. A. ListWinder, Ludwig (alias G. A. List), b. Šafov, Czech Republic (then Schaffa), Feb. 7, 1889, d. Baldock near London (United Kingdom), June 16, 1946, narrative writer, journalist, critic. Member of the "Prague Circle"; a friend of M. Brod and J. Urzidil; journalist in Vienna, Teplice (Teplitz) and Plzen (Pilsen); 1914 head of the feature department of the Prague journal "Bohemia"; fled to England in 1939; in his novels ("Die nachgeholten Freuden", 1927; "Der Kammerdiener", 1945) he deals with rule, power and oppression. Advocated the idea of a multicultural state under Habsburg rule; his critical novel about Franz Ferdinand, "Der Thronfolger" (1937), was forbidden at the time of the corporate state. Literature: K.
