Windenergie

Wind Energy: First attempts to gain energy from wind power were discontinued after discouraging results in the 1980s. However, in the 1990s new wind generators were built in the provinces of Salzburg (Straßwalchen, 10 kW) and Lower Austria (Eckartsau, 150 kW; St. Pölten, 110 kW; Michelbach, 225 kW; Zistersdorf, 30 kW) based on successful operations in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany. 35 wind generators had been integrated into the electric power supply system by 1996. An example of the early use of wind energy is the windmill at Retz (Lower Austria) from 1722.
