Winckler, GeorgWinckler, Georg, b. Ostrava, Czech Republic (then Ostrau), Sept. 27, 1943, economist. Studied at Princeton University, New Jersey and at the University of Vienna; since 1978 professor at the Department of Economics of the University of Vienna; visiting professor in the USA and Slovakia. From 1994 director of the interdisciplinary studies centre Zentrum für Internationale und Interdisziplinäre Studien (now Zentrum für Überfakultäre Studien). Main area of research: macroeconomics and European monetary integration. Since 1998 Rector of the University of Vienna; since 2000 Chairman of the Österreichische Rektorenkonferenz (Austrian conference of University Rectors).
