Wildgans, FriedrichWildgans, Friedrich, b. Vienna, June 5, 1913, d. Mödling (Lower Austria), Nov. 7, 1965, composer, clarinettist. Son of Anton Wildgans; taught at the Salzburg Mozarteum College of Music; clarinettist at the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Burgtheater from 1936-1939; politically persecuted and detained from 1940-1945; teacher at the Vienna Academy of Music from 1950-1965 (Professor from 1957); President of the International Society of Modern Music from 1948. Works: Der Diktator, 1933 (operetta); Der Baum der Erkenntnis, 1935 (opera). - Symphonic works, concertos for clarinet, chamber, film and incidental music. - Publication: Die Entwicklung der Musik in Österreich im 20. Jahrhundert, 1950.
